The "worst" faction to play as in the total war franchise in my opinion would have to be playing as The Pirates in Darthmod Empire. You have about 3 units to choose from, you start off broke as a joke in the middle of nowhere with the British and Spanish navies close by. PLUS every single faction is already and will remain at war with you.

The only three things which counter this AI behaviour are; marriage alliance. gifting gold. killing/sacking the AI's enemies. Most important rule for diplomacy in the older TWs including MWT2 is to control your borders. In Medieval 2, a Vassal simply becomes your military ally with military access and trade routes. The vassal in question also gives up a portion of it's income to the protector nation. The vassal can still backstab you in Medieval 2 and there's no benefit due to not gaining any control over their armies or cities. Best to just whipe 'm out instead,
How To. 1. Go to C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign. 2. Open descr_strat.txt with notepad. 3. Copy the unlockable factions to playable. Save the file and close it. Make sure you delete the factions in the unlockable when you copy and paste it or it will not work.
well you can either kill X faction in game to unlock them or go to Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign and go into the Descr_strat file and edit it by moving unlockables to playable list.
